HARD EDGE PAINTINGS (2020 - PRESENT)
This collection of hard edge abstract work explores compelling colour and shape relationships that delight the senses with a minimalist, retro-inspired aesthetic. These Geometric Expressionist works are fluid explorations and story telling of the relationships and balance between colour and form. Through a layering of colour, shape and line, these pieces channel emotional narratives and moods - to which their titles hint. As a custom framer, I am interested in the integration of the frame into the work while also providing a sculptural element to the piece. Once cut, there is a fracturing of the enclosed space inside the frame - allowing the artwork an expansion point, a deep breath - or a point of freedom in each piece through the clean, intricate slices of the frame.
Each piece is meticulously cut and assembled to drive the unique conceptual narrative of each painting. Using solid wood float frames against wood panels, these pieces extend sharp, complex angles around the edges of the painting, interacting and manipulating light and shadow.
